Tips for Wearing Jewelry to Work
Wearing the proper jewelry with the right attire is a learned art. But it’s not impossible to know what jewelry to wear with the right work attire. "We need to put the days of women dressing like men in black suits and no accessories behind us," Ali Galgano, founder of jewelry company Charm and Chain said during an interview with Business Insider.
Wearing the proper jewelry with the right attire is a learned art. But it’s not impossible to know what jewelry to wear with the right work attire. Here are a few tips for proper accessorizing at work.
• Don’t overdo the rings. If married, wear your wedding rings and one other ring, tops. Try to save rings with large stones for special occasions.
• Bracelets are timeless, but noisy ones are just plain inappropriate. Try to wear one thick one in a bold color instead of an armful of jangly ones. There is nothing quite as annoying as shaking hands with someone who provides their own sound effects. If you favor chains or gold, opt for an unusual pattern or color gradation.
• If you only choose one accessory, make it earrings. Earrings are a great accessory because they can take you day into night while still keeping your look effortless.
• It's easy to style up your favorite dress without going overboard. Use bohemian-style fashionable jewelry, like a bib or statement cuff. This will help take your outfit to the next level.
• If you're afraid of going overboard, remove one accessory before walking out the door for work. In conservative offices, wearing either a necklace or earrings is better than wearing both.
• Use rings to improve your mood. You're staring at your keyboard all day — so buy rings that will brighten your spirits.
• Try not to wear earrings that overpower your face, but rather a pair that enhances your features and attracts light to your face. If in doubt, save the really blingy stuff for your time off.
• Necklaces are fun, but not when they are overlong, overly bulky, and can get caught in your belt or desk drawers. When in doubt, go for a test run and try bending over and reaching into drawers while wearing the necklace.
